I’ve Moved! Saturday, Jul 18 2009

Well, I love WordPress and it’s clean and simple designs. But almost all the blogs I read are on Blogger and there are some things I can do with it I can’t do on WordPress. So I’m crossing over to Blogger land. I’m still getting everything worked out and updated, so bare with the mess and visit me on my new blog location:

Take Me Out to the Ballgame Tuesday, Jul 14 2009

My dad had some free tickets to the All Star Fan Fest in St.Louis so we headed down there last night to check it out. They had a lot of collectibles and displays of jerseys, trophies, tickets, photos, and other baseball memorabilia. There were players signing autographs and booths were you could make your own baseball card or pose with life size cutouts of the Cardinals players.  There were also batting cages, video games, and many other interactive exhibits. It wasn’t terribly crowded, but the lines for most of the activities were a bit long.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to bring this Corvette home as a souvenir.

We also check out the world’s largest baseball which is signed by all the players.

Overall it was a neat thing to see (alhtough not worth the $30 they were selling the Fan Fest tickets for) and it’s fun to have the All Star Game happening at Busch Stadium. Unfortunately, I will have some nasty traffic to deal with tonight while trying to get home especially with the President in town too. It should be a good game though.

Happy Birthday USA! Saturday, Jul 4 2009

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. I just love Independence Day. The food is so good and I just adore watching fireworks, even though my husband and his brothers can get a little crazy with the fireworks sometimes. All the ladies get to have fun with sparklers.

It’s amazing the courage and determination the signers of the Declaration of Independence had. They knew signing the Declaration could be a death sentence, but they believed in a great cause and were willing to take the risk to create this great country.

We had our celebration Friday night. This worked out well since it’s been raining most of the day today. Here’s a few shots I captured of our fireworks display:

The Beauty of Stained Glass Tuesday, Jun 23 2009

I just love stained glass windows, especially in old homes and churches. The intricate designs and vibrant colors look wonderful when sunlight streams through. They really can add a nice historic and unique style to a home. If I ever build a home someday, I would love to able to include a stained glass window or two. I also love the ones that are also just clear glass, but have the leaded borders between various geometric designs. They have a nice craftsman style look.  Here are a few pictures I had saved of elegant stained and leaded glass.

Or you can even hang a stained glass window or panel on the wall like the photo below.I always wanted to take a class sometime to make a stained glass panel or lampshade, but the supplies are a little expensive.

Better than a Gray Cubicle Friday, Jun 12 2009

While at work I am confined to a gray, bleak cubicle. The walls are gray, the carpet is gray, even my stapler is gray. Our office area at home isn’t much better. We currently have a mismatch of furniture, stacks of paper, and just overall clutter and confusion. The room is definitely in need of a makeover. So while looking online for ideas, I came across these lovely spaces. Don’t they just make you want to get down to work? Or at least pretend like you’re working just to hang out in these beautiful spaces?

Beautiful Botanicals Thursday, Jun 11 2009

Over the weekend I convinced hubby that it was time for visit to the amazing St. Louis Botanical Gardens. If you are ever in St.Louis, it is worth a visit.  The garden is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and they have special events happening all the time. The grounds cover 79 acres and include Japanese, Chinese, Victorian,  woodland, and rose gardens along with a climatron and temperate house. The garden normally opens at 9, but on Saturdays you can enter the grounds at 7. We arrived around 8 and found the gardens fairly empty that early. In fact, we even got in free because the cashier didn’t have her change drawer yet!

I always enjoy taking photos at the gardens. I normally edit my photos using Photoshop Elements, but while I was looking for an online photo editor to use while away from my home computer, I discovered Picnik. Picnik is a wonderful online photo editing site. There are dozens of different effects you can use to change the look of your photos. So I had some fun playing around with these photos and the available effects. If you haven’t given Picnik a try, check it out.
